One of the things I dislike most about Facebook is the uninhibited sharing of posts without even the faintest of background fact-checks. And of course old/traditional media are no easier to trust as they try to keep up with the fast pace. It begs the question and reflection of whether mankind has always been this keen to make up stories, and to believe them. Our brains are hard-wired for stories, and primarily for the stories of individuals who rarely represent the average person's experience. When stories of catastrophe reach us few pay attention until we start hearing individual names and stories. Is this a means to an end or one of mankind's major fallacies, inhibiting us from paying attention to the big picture?
