After all my whining about Spotify locking in podcasts, here are some Spotify stats we happen to be proud of 😁. But remember there are many other ways to listen as well - this is a subset of all you listeners out there! 👋🙏 x.com/uxpodcast/stat…
I personally use @OvercastFM for my podcast listening needs.

@medierna Under sommaren har många hört av sig till mig och varit arga och känt sig lurade av Di:s prenumerationsvillkor i de kampanjer som man kört under vår och sommar. Vill ni prata med någon av dem? dagensindustri@axbom.se

My lost glasses, of which I was 100% sure were in one geographical location, were today found in an entirely different geographical location.
Being 100% sure doesn't mean I can't also be 100% wrong.
Also. Yay! 🤓
Det är många människor som hört av sig till mig under sommaren och känner sig lurade och förbannade över Dagens Industris prenumerationsvillkor i samband med deras kampanjer.
Är det ingen som vill skriva om detta eller granskar inte medier varandra?

@Jessikayyy If I listen to podcasts through e.g. @OvercastFM, what data can the podcast provider see about me besides IP address (location) and the fact that I initated a download? There is a reason Nielsen are calling people: theverge.com/2019/7/11/2068…
@Jessikayyy @OvercastFM But this is unfortunately the reason people are scrambling to be available on Spotify and in some cases are going exclusive there. Spotify is providing data that podcasters have never had access to before.
@Jessikayyy @OvercastFM My hope was that Spotify would continue to be one of many channels I could choose from as a listener to download shows (as it is with our podcast), but we are seeing market grabs now where podcasts are becoming exclusive to platforms, just like tv-series and movies.
A positive power of Twitter in action: teaching by storytelling in short snippets accompanied with media.
And an important lesson it is.

Alas, @Spotify is now using the term 'podcast' for shows you can only listen to on their platform. x.com/axbom/status/1…

@MarMurube @MichelleObama Yes! But the thing I'm not thrilled about is that it's locked in and you need a Spotify account. The beginning of the end for podcasting as we know it... or I think we should call it a Spotify show rather than a podcast.

While comparisons are often disconnected, I found it fascinating to learn there has been one (1) - yes, one single person - shot dead by police in the entire history of Iceland. In December 2013.

A man was firing out a window. Teargas was used first but he did not respond. When he opened fire at the police officers they fired back.
The incident still led to national mourning, and the Iceland police department immediately apologized to the family out of respect.
Iceland is one of the countries (like Norway, New Zealand, Britain and Ireland) where police officers generally don't carry guns. Of those, Iceland is the only country where it's legal for citizens to carry guns, with an estimate of 30 privately-owned guns per 100 people.
Richard Hill, history professor at Victoria University in New Zealand, puts it like this: “Constables are placed in authority to protect, not to oppress, the public. For officers to carry guns would not just be unnecessary, but also antithetical to the values of civil society.”
Those were my Sunday morning musings and learnings. Also remember that Iceland is an island nation of just over 360,000 people. There are not a whole lot of conclusions to draw, other than that there are always different ways to manage law and order.
