On the one hand they say algorithms will change everything. On the other hand they repeatedly downplay the potential damage algorithms can do.

âȘ Replying to @deeped

@JaredFossey Yes, I should have given you more credit. Best phonetic description Iâve seen.

@JaredFossey Almost.
@JaredFossey Of course I don't know how you pronounce hwyds, which I thought was an awesome way of writing it đ
The Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection has recently changed name from âDatainspektionenâ to
âIntegritetsskyddsmyndighetenâ.
Yes, one word. Half my time time speaking to journalists now is spent on getting the pronunciation of that name right and hesitating each time. đ
To complete the picture, here is the same name in three of Sweden's five official minority languages (2 are still undecided):
Finnish: Yksityisyydensuojaviranomainen
MeÀnkieli: Integriteettisuojaviranomhainen
Yiddish: ŚŚ Ś©ŚŚŚąŚŚŚ©Śą ŚŚŚ ŚĄŚŚÖ·Ś Ś„ Ś€ÖżŚÖ·Śš ŚÖžŚ€ÖŒŚŚŚŚ Ś€ÖŒŚšŚŚŚŚÖ·ŚŚ§ŚŚŚ

@Acuity_Design I have learnt so much from just attending workshops where you were clear on allowing everyone to participate on their own terms. I have adopted a lot of this - and just putting that out there for everyone creates a safer space, based on feedback . While nothing is perfect.

@Acuity_Design This started with me reflecting clinical trial consent, and then reading to understand the levels of consent: simple consent, written consent, informed consent and how the consent also affects close relationships⊠while itâs mostly framed as an individual, autonomous choice.
@Acuity_Design Consent as a piece of paper with a signature is somewhat distressing.
Even consent is a slippery slope. You always have to ask:
- what understanding is the consent based on?
- what loose promises are expected to be upheld by the consent?
- is the consent value-based, needs-based or coercion-based?
How consent is gained can be hugely unethical.
Adding a section on consent to my ethics curriculum. :)
I finally hung my photo of Astrid Lindgren in my studio. Bought it as a company Christmas present for myself. I don't know what does it, but I am enamored with this photograph.

So yeah, you need to click the tweet to see the full photo. I'm not talking about my panda pillow, just wanted to provide context of where it's hanging. ;)

@snowracer VĂ€nta, dök den upp i RSS-flödet? đŹ

âIn reality, a number of studies have shown that most of the money made from targeted advertising does not reach the creators of the contentâthe app developers and the content they host.â

Loss of life
Slavery
Oppression
Impaired autonomy
Ignored voice
Hurt feelings
These are not equal harms. But sometimes the differences arenât as clear-cut. That is why ethics is a conversation, not a checklist. Still worth noting that a checklist can assist the conversation.
Also note: these are not siloed harms and everything is subject to second and third order thinking. Ignored voice can lead to oppression can lead to loss of life. This is why strategic foresight, listening and inclusion of voices are all part of applied ethics.
Another one of those words that gets thrown around a lot as an example of harm is âaddictionâ. Here are my thoughts on addiction in the tech space:
