Here’s Conor, designer at Basecamp, making an excellent point about the experienced paternalism of that post.

But also do read Conor’s full thread. And note that more employees have publicly expressed disappointment. x.com/conormuirhead/…

I attended an event on Digital Ethics today and lasted five minutes. 5 mins into the event we were told we would be randomly paired with a stranger and encouraged to have a 1-1 conversation for five minutes. No way to avoid, because the tech would just “spin and select”. I left.

An activity like that works for some people. Certainly not everyone. Doing it at the top of the agenda in a digital room of 50 unknowns was not respectful to participants. If I just wanted to listen in on the event was no way for me.

Left me ill at ease.

@epenzeymoog @imdoinfine @beantin I mention Tile in the piece I published yesterday. I feel Apple obviously tried but their efforts still have glaring problems.

@epenzeymoog @imdoinfine @beantin As I see it, Apple are introducing an additional tracker into the equation which means redundancy for an abuser. They can plant both a Tile and an AirTag to create more "reliable" data.

@epenzeymoog @imdoinfine @beantin The fact they buillt this into the operating system without any ability for me as an iPhone owner to opt out of being part of the mesh network is also concerning.
