I made this remixed image two years ago, based on Swedish artist Karl Jilg's illustration from 2014 commissioned by Sweden's Road Administration.
The image illustrates risks for unprotected road users where cars and humans are mixed. In my modified version I have added modern obstacles in the form of parked electric scooters and placed two more people on the sidewalk, bringing attention to how space is also shared with people with mobility and visual constraints.
A person I follow on Twitter has been campaigning against electric scooters since they first appeared, pointing out the obvious risks. He is blind and recently was in an accident because of a carelessly parked scooter. He was severely injured, including nerve damage to the hand he holds his cane with. Beyond the upcoming operation he now requires physiotherapy for his hand once per hour(!).

Cars continue to hold their vast ownership of public space, and the small space left for unprotected road users is becoming increasingly more dangerous.
Mackan, who is blind, severely injured (also in the hand he holds his cane with) because people park electric scooters in pathways that are supposed to be free from clutter. Regulation around these scooters is not nearly enough, and it’s maddening how lawmakers are slow to act. twitter.com/standupmackan/status/1…
Mackan has been fighting and warning about this for years... x.com/axbom/status/1…
AI is neither artificial nor intelligent.
"We are commonly presented with this vision of AI that is abstract and immaterial. I wanted to show how AI is made in a wider sense – its natural resource costs, its labour processes, and its classificatory logics. To observe that in action I went to locations including mines to see the extraction necessary from the Earth’s crust and an Amazon fulfilment centre to see the physical and psychological toll on workers of being under an algorithmic management system. My hope is that, by showing how AI systems work – by laying bare the structures of production and the material realities – we will have a more accurate account of the impacts, and it will invite more people into the conversation. These systems are being rolled out across a multitude of sectors without strong regulation, consent or democratic debate."
In the spirit of transparency, this was a really disappointing read about @Wikimedia :
You've likely seen them begging for money on Wikipedia. Maybe you've donated. And they're stowing lots of donations away, but likely not for the Wikipedia site.

"Having built his career on championing human ingenuity and invention, Gladwell here, inexplicably offers a parable about how technological innovation is less successful in war than indiscriminate butchery." x.com/lmlauramarsh/s…
How much time I should spend listening to understand the real problem will vary. The toughest insight is that often a lifetime is not enough.
Passing information from one generation to the next then becomes the truer problem.

P.S. This is not an endorsement of Apple as a 'safe choice'. I just thought the storytelling was fun in this. :)

Something I feel is missing from my Elements of Digital Ethics is deepfakes. I planned on including this in Biometric Abuse, but it’s broader. I also want to address the phenomenon of digital assistants not disclosing they are non-human... Thoughts? axbom.com/elements/
