@ifindkarma @ishyamo @jessicamalonso I was mostly referring to influence over behavior. But these are all good points. Facebook often emphasises "we do not sell your data" and then lets advertisers target vulnerable teenagers. But few ask if they *buy* data. Yael's thread in Jessica's follow-up tweet was also good.

@ifindkarma @ishyamo @jessicamalonso Important to note that deleting a FB account
1) greatly reduces the amount of data points they can collect about you
2) reduces the platform's influence over your behavior đ
3) reduces their overall power (more people outside will force companies to invest in other places)
@ifindkarma @ishyamo @jessicamalonso I agree we can not avoid being identified online by tech giants, but I believe it can be misleading to give the impression that the amount of data collection non-FB users are subjected to is anything near the amount of daily users. Also, the data collection is only part of it :)
Just bought An Ugly Truth by @sheeraf and @ceciliakang. As always I love looking at book titles in different languages. In this case I'm also intrigued by the different choices of Mark photos.

Aldrig.
Just nu.

@D20Nat1 This is true, and yet only a small percentage of people given this type of offer tend to agree to it. Which will also relate to who is being offered, how much time and effort is being requested in return, and who is offering.

@ishyamo Good Q. Generally I personally don't look for payment when assisting with research. For me it was just that Amazon was a deterrent in this case, as I realise how much will go there. But I do believe it's fair to reimburse people for their efforts, depending perhaps on context.
â[âŠ] Can we interview you? To thank you for your time and insights, you'll get a $50 Amazon gift card. đâ
Honestly, I donât believe that offer is as enticing as research teams seem to think it is.
And for me, it has the exact opposite effect. âčïž
To be clear: it's pushing money towards Amazon on my behalf, and as part of the research project on many people's behalf, that I would take issue with. It's fair to reimburse people for putting in time and helping out.

@vdignum Excellent stuff Virginia! Will add this to my ethics course curriculum. You're so on target with the complexities.
@vdignum With regards to the reproducing robots I was wondering who was buying filaments for the 3d printer đ

Are you using "tip of the iceberg"-diagrams in your presentations and explanations? It's very likely you're getting the physics all wrong and your tip may find itself under water.
Just published on my blog: The topple of an iceberg: You're drawing it wrong. https://axbom.com/iceberg/
With a link to the simulator, promising hours of fun.

It turns out all those "tip of an iceberg"-drawings are giving the wrong idea.

@imdoinfine Right, thank you! I've forgotten to update that part. This was something Apple released after I originally wrote that post.
Will fix immediately.
