My Sunday morning stream of consciousness. Not everything is a personal goal to be achieved. Aimless conversations with friends, aimless reading, aimless wandering, petting an animal. It is not the two hours, seven books, twelve kilometers, or seventeen strokes that matter.
Refusing to measure can be more important than assigning an arbitrary figure. We are human. When everything becomes a number, everything turns into a contest, a judgment and ranking. Everything can become a disappointment. Even things that should never be allowed to become a disappointment!
When we strip away numbers, we see affection, passion, curiosity, and tenderness. Never two cups of affection, seven spoonfuls of passion, twelve parts curiosity, and seventeen centimeters of tenderness. Just naked humanity. The very thing numbers do their best to conceal.
Don’t chase numbers. Explore what happens when they aren’t in control. When numbers don’t matter.
