@jonathansulo @Flickr My pics are not that size, so the space they’re offering is not same for everyone. But I agree it’s still generous. The notice period they’re giving here for deletion of hosted photos - however - is not what I would expect. I would have expected them to unpublish, not delete.

@jonathansulo @Flickr The vague language is of no help either. What does ”at risk of deletion” mean. You may be right about active community. Time will tell. I’ll watch from the sidelines ;)

So @Flickr just threatened to start deleting old photos that have been hosted there since forever. And I was a supporting Pro member for a while. Will move as far away from #Flickr as I can and will recommend others do the same. Not cool.

Yes, I’m well aware of Flickr ownership changes. But keeping my old photos for myself to have access to, and perhaps going pro in the future, would be the sensible option to keep Flickr on brand and aligned with its history. Now it’s pay or die.

I can't help but feel that 20 years ago it was easier to keep track of news, friends and companies using RSS and Google Reader.

The number of times I lose something now because I can't remember where I found it, or a feed refreshes and I can't be bothered, is worrying.

The islands of content broke the web. More bridges are needed. And a way for individuals to gain back control.

And yes, Google Reader was launched in 2005 and closed in 2013 (citing less usage as a reason), so 20 years is more what it feels like than what it factually is 🤪

@JRGdesignworks @indiyoung Thx for great feedback. When I teach the tool in workshops I emphasize that we will never be able to map everyone but the tool allows us to have the discussion around all the people (and traits) we fail to take into account. It increases awareness and sensitivity. And yes >

@JRGdesignworks @indiyoung > people will move in and out of these circles, sometimes merely as a forgotten target group. I think your example is brilliant and will remind myself to bring it up with participants and students.

@JRGdesignworks @indiyoung Important to remember also is that the circle is about ”excluded” which will spur discussions around slow internet connections, ip blocks, lack of correct device/browser, language barriers, sensory overload and obviously much more.
