Dear Rigid Upholders of Development Processes, Models and Practices,
No. We're not done yet.
Yours truly,
The Change Makers

Heartbreaking rhetoric. 💔
Grading humans on a scale, at scale, is the path we're heading now. It's making me 😤😭 x.com/BBCPolitics/st…
When talking about the benefits of storytelling we also must talk about the big risks of storytelling. If humans are 'hard-wired' to respond to stories then these can be used to sway emotion and control a narrative that isn't necessarily true or representative of real issues. 1/3
Storytelling is a form of nudging, meaning that we have to be transparent about the stories' intent and mindful of their impact.
And we need to teach people to take time to reflect and reason on what a story is truly saying before acting on it. 2/3
As humans we tend to respond to the story of an individual's fate with much stronger emotions than to the story of the fate of thousands.
Stories are great, but their use must work hand-in-hand with a sense of responsibility and accountability. 3/3
Understanding that you work with choice architecture is only helpful if you also understand there is an already applied, rigid choice architecture that you are fighting against, and that architecture is different for each individual.
I believe in helping to expose the latter.
@Hopelab Hi! Have you considered adding an RSS feed to make it easy to subscribe to and read your blog?
Add complexity, add vulnerability. x.com/WIRED/status/1…
Wow. A brilliant article on the friction between science and engineering, and the role of design in this. Read it, see the diagram. By Stephanie Greer of @Hopelab
via @DrGMerchant who called it ’science friction’. Perfect. 👊

This right here is what I find intriguing about the #impeachment process. It’s about communication. [thread] x.com/jljacobson/sta…
”When it’s successful, there is a huge benefit [...] But the cost of doing research is getting exponentially higher. As a society and an economy, we suffer if there are only a handful of places where you can be on the cutting edge.”

“We may not be able to anticipate ’unknown unknowns’ but a thorough process with a diverse team can help ensure we are starting with the right questions, have good data, and are doing our best to anticipate the ’known unknowns.’” by @jajordan13 link.medium.com/TzjsiHuRr0

@cjforms @deevybee Maddening way of wording this! Also, an outdated study from 1987. Vocabulary development happens today in many ways this study could not possibly take into account.
During my accessibility seminar I made the observation that penalizing accessibility issues by fining a public sector organization feels off. Lack of money is often an excuse to not prioritize accessibility. Forcing earmarking of money for accessibility work would feel better.
About to do a 2-hour teaching session on accessibility at a digital agency. I love these gigs, because they contribute to making accessibility top of mind. And because I love them I do these sessions awfully cheap. Win-win! Get in touch if you want one.
Did I just call myself cheap? Why yes, yes I did. Be kind while I'm offline. 😂
My reading list is now two pages long. No joke.

@MrAlanCooper @johannhari101 Powerful stuff.

@berkun I use these quotes from Aristotle in one of my presentations to illustrate a similar point.
”Women are unfinished men.”
”A proper wife should be as obedient as a slave... The female is a female by virtue of a certain lack of qualities - a natural defectiveness.”
Can we just take a moment and appreciate the vast, dark abyss we are about to fall into...
Under the guise of something called Humanyze no less.

Accessible websites (from a #WCAG perspective) that look and feel awesome.
What are your go-to examples?
I've found this article but some of those sites have a lot of white text on image backgrounds... internetrix.com.au/blog/five-beau…
There's always the old trusted csszengarden but there are some serious contrast issues there as well...

@RebbeccaTomas 😂 Yup. It's for my company, and I'm guessing there is some law that regulates this.
