So I added the Commento commenting platform to my blog in November because I liked the focus on privacy. But it’s impossible to get hold of a human there. Or THE human as I think it’s a one-man show.
What are some other privacy-conscious commenting platforms?
The only redeeming feeling of discovering and reading many ancient and cringeworthy drafts in my blog platform is that I actually was sensible enough not to publish some of them.

@thomaswoodcock This is fair. My tweet though was intended to emphasise that the distinction is not obvious (many I talk to equate them) but it is clearly there.
Unless ethics is used to reason and advise on how one can mitigate harm (I don't see it as rules), I find it hard calling it ethics.
Ethics is not the law. The law is not ethics.
Many things were unethical long before they became unlawful.
Making certain actions unlawful also protects evildoers.
Many things that are lawful hurt and harm and oppress people every day.
The work will never be done. Keep at it.
First mindmap after reading through #Clubhouse's terms and privacy docs. Feels like a lot is missing, such as specific subprocessors/affiliates and GDPR. Also wondering about the 18yo limit but they still harvest phone numbers from under 18s. No age check at all when signing up.

@LouShackleton @leannemgriff @rufflemuffin Yes, so much going on, not finished yet. Being interviewed tomorrow on the app's privacy issues (sharing address book). But I have interacted with deaf users who use the platform with their own tech setup:

What are 'reasonable commercial efforts'?

1. Last week I got this question from a consultancy: "Is it really necessary with Help functionality for this medical application? It is our assessment that UI should be built so a Help function is not needed."
I'm glad it wasn't asked to my face because I wanted to scream.
2. There are many people with both temporary and permanent cognitive impairments who need help in getting started and reminded. People with vision loss and a variety of neurological disorders are often helped by clear guidance and explanations.
3. Saying it should be "simple enough for no help to be required" unfortunately puts on display a lack of understanding for a broader population and the various needs of different people. Without help functionality fewer people will be able to use your service.
4. Once again for the people in the back: some people being able to use your service without help does not mean everyone can. Be careful who you test with.
Of course, designing that help functionality is another story.

@kazarnowicz @JaredFossey @jennytheolin Yes, we’ve slowly acclimatized to it and it’s one of these situations where the benefits covertly hides the harm. The inability among journalists to be introspective about this when doing reports on other surveillance states is sometimes hilarious but mostly distressing… x.com/axbom/status/1…

@JaredFossey @kazarnowicz @jennytheolin I do believe we talk too little about how our ”personnummer” has had us being a surveillance state for longer than anyone cares admit. On my number you can even see I’m born abroad. Yes, they changed this rule but dit not change old numbers.
@JaredFossey @kazarnowicz @jennytheolin It’s only two years since they made it unlawful for store staff to ask for you personnummer(!) We’ve been very naive.
1. I love the idea of Ikigai, but more so the original concept than the recent, western pop-version.
I bet many are familiar with the venn diagram showing the intersection of
* what you love
* what you are good at
* what the world needs and
* what you can be paid for
2. That diagram was originally just a concept for life purpose and not really related to Ikigai (at all)
The western, capitalist remake of course moved the focus away from human experience to growth of capital, as if these concepts are necessarily intertwined.
3. In reality Ikigai is about
* a life worth living, the happiness and benefit of being alive, and
* something to live for, the joy and goal of living
4. Clarifying this notion:
* Ikigai isn’t necessarily about your work
* Ikigai is not a single, all-or-nothing extraordinary thing
* You can have more than one
* You can change it
5. From the book ’Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life’ by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles, these 10 rules may give you closer to understanding what Ikigai really is about:
6.
1Stay active; don’t retire.
2Take it slow.
3Don’t fill your stomach.
4Surround yourself with good friends.
5Get in shape for your next birthday.
6Smile.
7Reconnect with nature.
8Give thanks.
9Live in the moment.
10Follow your ikigai

Can the internet via a mobile phone be considered free, if the only way to use the phone is to accept a tirade of terms and conditions? Likewise, if I can only use a national digital id on my phone by accepting the terms of said phone, is it lawful for a state to require?
