So I've passed 50 posts on Bluesky. Telling. I'm really pleased with how easy it is to find and follow familiar friends and faces from the ex-site (which I left in May of 2022).
But I do feel a bit late to the game. 😅
I'm enjoying Mastodon but many of the people I want to see more of aren't there.

I felt in really good condition this week up until yesterday. I exerted myself a bit much wanting to tend to some chores (for example mounting stuff on the walls that I've been putting off).
Now my pain from yesterday afternoon feels like it went back to how it was four weeks ago (shoulders and chest). And really bad sleep. And so now I'm kicking myself for being stupid and wanting to be able to do too much too soon.
A learning moment.
For context: I'm recovering from open heart surgery that I had on August 19.

A 2023 study into deepfake porn by Security Hero. There are 550% more deepfake videos online in 2023 than in 2019.
Some key findings:
-Deepfake porn makes up 98% of all deepfake videos.
-99% of individuals targeted in deepfake porn are women.
-South Korean singers and actresses constitute 53% of the individuals featured in deepfake porn.
-It now takes less than 25 minutes and costs $0 to create a 60-second deepfake pornographic video of anyone using just one clear face image.
-74% of deepfake pornography users don't feel guilty about it.

Kill the Newsletter is a great service that gives you a unique e-mail address (for subscribing) and generates a unique Atom feed for your reader, containing all delivered newsletters.

Note, though, that if it's a paid newsletter and you subscribe only to free updates, the feed will contain links to paywalled updates as well, that you may wish to keep out of your feed]

I gave two talks on "digital legacy" this year and they stand out from the rest by the huge interest expressed by the audience, and how people stayed after to just talk for a long time about their experiences. My sense was that many people truly feel lost and crave guidance and safe spaces to talk.
@fasterandworse I don't like this at all. In the same page they're saying they've "estimated" that they are not significantly increasing their footprint while at the same time saying they have no way of knowing. It's absurd.
