@yatil I’d consider using calendly.com and hooking it up to Stripe. Stripe can be set up to manage taxes automatically these days.
👍 My personal concern is that the Fediverse will be a notch more confusing when half of toots can be quote-boosted and half can not. Or quote-boosting actually makes your toot less visible because a lot of people will opt out of seeing them.
But this variety is somehow a necessary part of the Fediverse I guess…
And haha yes, I don’t really know how to respond to those. It’s interesting to me that people actually believe that anyone can just fork or contribute 😅

As a transparent decision-making process is my primary concern there are many questions that would have to be answered in this way before embarking on something that changes the dynamics of communication.
Without a transparent decision-making process I will certainly choose another service as my fediverse home :)
Yes, ’quote boosts’ are a great example of this. Interestingly (but far from surprisingly) most people who want them don’t choose the fediverse services that already support them.
Instead the hope is that the software that doesn’t have it, and has long had a clear stance on not implementing them, will still build them if enough (or the right) people demand them.
If people truly acted the way you described with regards to the fediverse, wouldn’t they just choose another service?

I think the idea of the Fediverse is in constant flux, and that is part of its appeal to me. Originally the term applied to the OStatus protocol rather than ActivityPub.
And while ActivityPub is indeed the dominant format today it would, in my mind, convey a smaller space than the wider potential.
If it had been decided Fedi can never be more than OStatus the term would be weaker.
I do believe my diagram can be used as an explanatory model whichever conviction one has.

Man kan inte jätteenkelt ändra antal tecken på Mastodon i inställningar som admin (man kan dock göra det på servern).
Men det är flertalet som du ser och kan följa som inte är på Mastodon men använder kanske t ex Friendica, Pleroma eller Misskey.
Flera tjänster som använder ActivityPub tillåter obegränsat antal tecken, och Mastodon hämtar inläggen som de är skrivna. Man begränsar alltså inte åt andra hållet.

Nu såg jag att du delat att det var från infosec.exchange. Det är ju faktiskt mycket riktigt en Mastodon-instans som har ändrat i koden på sin installation för att ge sina användare fler tecken.

Also interesting how many of them have resorted to introducing friction (adding questions to join forums, disabling functionality during election, etc…) when it has become too obvious that the frictionless experience can often lead to immense harm.

It’s a good example for the need for regulation as well. At what point do we decide that there is a certain level of power that we don’t want to provide to everyone…
