Exactly. I know this is a sensitive topic in the design industry, but as I’ve always coded I know and appreciate the huge benefits of something that behaves like the final product.
And I don’t think all designers should be able to do this (but to at least understand the material they are working with), but my feeling is that the deep feature set of FIgma is becoming more akin to coding than designing. Which can be alright if it creates value that is not better achieved another way, it’s just a different type of profession. And I’m an old geezer trying to make sense of the world. 😅

@simeon This is fair. I think I'm mostly concerned about how much effort is put into high fidelity. I often do rough sketches with a pen, move stuff around, test, get feedback. Combinations of paper, digital whiteboards and Keynote (quirky I know, but also extremely fast). Then I head to HTML :)
I feel the learning curve for all of Figma's features is similar to the learning curve of learning HTML and CSS, but I do acknowledge there are collaboration benefits.
I know my process is far from "standard" 😅

I can not see who you are conversing with (likely a limit in place) but it is far from my intent that anyone feel this poster implies Africa to be inferior (myself born in Liberia and have lived in Tanzania).

That one I hadn't read, though I read several similar ones in 2017. Thank you for sharing. It's hard to read but necessary. They are sharing their story with a hope for change to happen... and it's so difficult to fathom how long change takes.
I'm imagining a catch 22 wherein people aren't able to even read about it and hence it falls into invisibility and the trauma continues...

Agree. My worries are primarily about the klout that the person has and how they are influencing a younger generation who look up to them (and learn from them).
My worries may be misplaced as it's not unlikely that the younger generation can see right through this.

I was hoping someone would make that point, as I thought it as well when writing 😅 This could be true, in which case we are already screwed. But if I concede to that being true my existence (and self-awareness) becomes largely irrelevant. So I can just keep playing the game to keep feeling some sort of sense of autonomy. According to the wishes of the AI harvesting me for energy. 🥴

Agree. We can no longer trust much by way of future content. Small networks of people will become very important. Time to get my ham radio license…
Trustworthiness of stories has always been iffy, but a big change is that those with the most money and power can control the ”truth” by their ability to flood our feeds with content.
