I was gonna ask which one I should start with but I suppose I should go chronologically.
Unless there is a version of the machete order for Hannah Arendt.

"It’s a lot of fictions really: this idea that Bill Gates is giving away all his money. That’s not true. His personal wealth is nearly doubled during his tenure as a philanthropist.
[…] if you follow the money, almost all charitable gifts go to rich nations like the US, Switzerland, the UK."
@techwontsave.us: Bill Gates is lauded for his philanthropic work, but is he really the “good billionaire”? Tim Schwab joins @parismarx.bsky.social to discuss how the Gates Foundation uses charity to forward similar capitalist business models as Gates promoted at Microsoft. Nice writeup, thank you.
(I did a double-take on this, since SD is the far-right party in Swedish politics. Way to grab my attention 😅)

"We’re not publicly discussing that" is a hell of a statement. Reminded me of when Google never told customers their Nest device has a microphone.
I really don't feel Ray-Ban is getting near enough discredit for their participation in this. 😒

Wow. Well today's word certainly was a good example of that. Though it also made me think of a certain detective.

Oldie but goodie: When digital "innovation" demolishes accessibility and common sense.
Opening the glove box in the Cadillac Lyriq SUV requires you to navigate through a touch screen menu, and among 10 on-screen options find and touch “Glove Box Release”.
Source: Doug DeMuro’s review on YouTube.
In the linked video, a salesperson reveals it took him 2 weeks to learn how to open the glovebox. He also says it’s for security reasons.
So apparently when someone breaks into your car they’re gonna be totally stumped by how to break into your glove box.

The Glove Box in the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq | Kendall Auto Oregon
Unsurprisingly, in several different videos I’ve seen the exact placement of the menu item to open the glove box is different.
What you may not know is that the car also has to be stationary. No way to open it when the car is in motion.
Also, wait for it… if your battery is dead it won’t open.

The fact that there are many, many videos online helping people understand HOW TO OPEN A GLOVE BOX should be some sort of red flag.
But, hey, at least it’s driving content creation.

@axbom.com: I see people use QR codes in fundraising graphics. Be advised that QR codes in graphics are easily replaced by bad actors, essentially giving them an opportunity to try and hijack some payments and funnel them to their own accounts. (1/5)

Imagine you are a campaign owner who has produced a graphic asking for donations, encouraging people to scan a QR code.
You see someone on social media posting your graphics and encouraging to donate to your efforts. It's likely full of praise for you and your mission.
(2/5)
Their praise makes you happy and proud, so you republish it and thank them.
Now what if I told you that person was not actually posting your graphic, but a manipulated one with their own QR code in place of yours.
(3/5)
So now you've repeated their version of the image to all of your own followers, essentially endorsing it and helping them in their deceptive efforts.
Recommendation: don’t use QR-codes in graphics. Use official, verifiable web addresses.

Here is my full article on how QR code hijacking can divert donations to criminals.
QR codes are immensely popular but also immensely open to fraud when they are used in public spaces and forums.

I'd say that translates literally to something more like smut-lobster. There is no word for 'minded' involved in the word.

Hi Bilgi. If you have a look at the list of who I am following I think a large part are UX or UX-adjacent.
But I'm also perhaps more focused on digital ethics than strictly UX these days. 😁
So I've passed 50 posts on Bluesky. Telling. I'm really pleased with how easy it is to find and follow familiar friends and faces from the ex-site (which I left in May of 2022).
But I do feel a bit late to the game. 😅
I'm enjoying Mastodon but many of the people I want to see more of aren't there.
