I keep hearing…
"Everybody needs to start using AI!"
and…
"Ha! AI is everywhere. If you're using the internet you're almost certainly using AI."
Well, job done then.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I often put "AI" in quotation marks as I think it’s a flawed expression that includes everything and nothing, selling a vision of machines that do not exist. Every time I repeat it, I give it legitimacy, which hurts a little.
I believe a fairy falls ill every time someone says "AI" with a straight face.
@hesselbom Haha, kul.
Ah… Sweden. The committee on AI has released their report to the government today.
The general feeling is a recommendation to go all in on a specific yet ill-defined technology without asking if it’s the right tool for the job.
But they do seem to be very certain that it’s all very urgent and we will all be left behind if we don’t act now.
I always wonder how far behind it’s possible to be left. It’s not like there’s a scale, or a point of reference. But damn, it’s urgent. We should essentially be panicking. You know, because those are the perfect conditions for well-reasoned decision-making.
I keep reading the phrase “task force” in the report (which is entirely in Swedish, and that’s really the only action point in English) and all I can think is Space Force.
Anyway, here’s the report: https://www.regeringen.se/contentassets/11431c781ff746b3b7a49312fa4de624/ai-kommissionens-fardplan-for-sverige.pdf

@mkj I tend to agree. Hopefully this will boost my blogging. 😁
Considering moving back to Mastodon. I love Akkoma, but I don’t have the time to maintain my installation.
On my Cloudron installation, Mastodon would be essentially maintained for me.
What saddens me most is that despite all the marketing of the ease of switching instances I will again lose my history of posts on my timeline (and there’s that one time I lost a few thousand followers).
Thankful I have a backup on micro.blog though.
This also means my posts can’t be this long anymore (Cloudron is kinda locked in that way) but maybe that’s a good thing, haha.
Får jag ett AI-genererat julklappsrim så kastar jag paketet i brasan.
@julian Sounds like a risky endeavor 😅
What specifically happens if I close a Fediverse server and start a new Fediverse server with the same domain name, and I create the same handle as I had before.
I expect this to fail, but in what ways would it fail? Or would it actually work? I just don’t know. 😅 (besides losing all posts, but that always happens when moving servers on the Fediverse)
@mralancooper I actually made a play on this Desmond Tutu quote in my 2022 talk on AI and human rights, and made an AI version.
Original version:
“When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.”
Re-worked for an AI future:
"When the techbros came to Africa they had the AI and we were reclaiming our land. They said 'Let us play.’ We put on goggles and closed our eyes. When we opened them we had western clothes, art, architecture and social rules. The AI erased our land."

I like to intersperse my writing with content that isn't me going on about online safety or bad tech actors.
That's why my latest article is about typewriters. ❤️

When I tell my grandkids people used to trade digital illustrations of monkeys for boatloads of money and pundits on tv were talking about it as a valid investment I won’t believe myself.
"The main argument in defense of algorithms is that they eliminate the obstacle of human inefficiency. Often this sentiment fails to take into account the many benefits of human inefficiency, such as taking time to reflect, taking time to question and taking time to listen.”

@Frans_de_Graaf Does Qwant offer a web browser? I can’t see that they do.
