When I bring up how children work in artisanal mines in DR Congo and Madagascar to harvest the minerals the rich world needs for its tech, there is one type of comment that comes up more than others:
"Yes, but the working conditions of the people making high street clothes is also awful. It's so hard to do the right thing these days."
I truly have a hard time understanding what this comment is really getting at it. It feels like it's trying to tone down the awful reality of one set of circumstances by bringing up another?
And makes it sound as if the rich people in the world are helpless victims of having to use stuff that is the product of abuse and exploitation.
It's all so absurd.
I get that people don't like to hear that they are contributors to harm through their actions, and I can acknowledge that this is a defense mechanism. I guess I just wish we were past this.
@cgruenloh I actually had to check. I orderered these in 2017(!) and have a pack of the first edition. But they're probably hidden in a drawer somewhere so thank you for reminding me!

The launch of yet another bot, putting machine regurgitation ahead of human connection, made me rather sad. This time it was too close to a place of care.
I’ve underestimated how much people want – nay, need – to believe the nonsensical.
Stor fuktskada i vårt Attefallshus. Håll koll på era tätskikt vänner... ha droppskydd under kyl/frys, disk-och tvättmaskin. Håll koll så att packningar håller tätt, även i toaletten (som det var i detta fall) och kolla då och då att tätskikten är täta. Investera i vattenlarm under diskbänk.

@Mabande 💚 Exakt. Jag blir så stressad av allt som måste göras och vet sällan var jag ska börja. Jag har fantastiska grannar men kan ju inte gå till dem för precis allt 😅
En grundkurs i hantverk/rörmokeri/snickeri för husägare. Det vore något. Tips mottages varmt… typ isolera, lägga golv, bygga en innervägg, bygga altan… ja alla typer av lite större projekt. Inser nu att jag borde ha en tydlig underhållsplan, så att jag till exempel vet när det är dags att måla utan att behöva “märka” det. Jag tar mig fram, men det vore skönt att känna att man har lite bättre grundkunskap för att korta ner hur lång tid allt tar.
Det här lät ju kul! Inte exakt det jag for efter men helt klart något jag tänker överväga.

@kallekn @nichobi Ja jag är väldigt nyfiken på varför vissa program finns kvar i det öppna formatet (Medierna är en annan), givet de argument SR framför för att styra lyssnarna till appen i stället. Är det redaktionerna som vägrar släppa RSS-distributionen?

Jag noterar att det inte skrivts någon uppföljning kring hur det gått med dialogen med Synskadades riksförbund. Man skulle ju önska att överväganden gällande tillgänglighet för personer med funktionsnedsättningar är något som tas i beaktande och har utretts ordentligt innan sådana här omfattande beslut tas.
