@DCLXVI I can identify with the despair, at the same time as I am always looking for signs of hope and compassion.
Teaching helps me see the energy and willingsness among young adults to work differently.
Sometimes I imagine many of us are in the grief stage of depression and detachment, and need to work our way through this. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed and stand back for a little bit.

When you mean to write "quite" in conversation as a voice of agreement, but mistakenly write "quiet", as if to silence their opinion. And then don't realise this until weeks later when wondering why they've gone so... quiet.

Bert's software makes a noise each time data is sent from his browser to Google. Guess how many sites keep sending data with every click, without consent? And then he added Facebook and a few more trackers. The second video in his blog post is a brilliant audio illustration of trackers on a news site.

Avoiding data collection on the internet is a challenge. In a recent experiment with online anonymity, I withdrew cash to pay for a coupon that would allow me to sign up for Mullvad VPN. I even wore a baseball hat to more easily obscure my face. One of the few VPN providers to encourage this, I can use their service – and pay for it – without giving away my identity.

The paradox of democracy is always that you can vote it away by allowing the most democracy-hostile actors to gain power. But perhaps more absurd: the most loyal defenders of democracy are the ones who will choose to allow that to happen.
It begs the question: How many votes for terrorists does it take for their behavior to be considered reasonable by a majority?
