There is no longer a curriculum. No chatbot is going to teach you what can go wrong. And any creator gets a free scapegoat.

Om du hört mig föreläsa om digital etik de senaste 8 åren känner du kanske igen den här bilden.
Bilden visar schematiskt en löprunda med fitness-appen Strava på en militär anläggning. Poängen är att det är en hemlig amerikansk bas i Afghanistan, vars position avslöjas av löprundan som någon på basen tar och som laddas upp till Strava.
Jag brukar ha med bilden när jag pratar om risker i den digitala sfären och metoder för att begränsa skada.
Jag brukar också nämna detta i samband med Rosie Spinks som redan 2017 skrev en artikel om hur hon upptäckt att hennes löprundor fanns läsbara för vem som helst som använde samma app som henne: japp, Strava. Hon skrev bland annat att inte ens Stravas inställning ”Enhanced Privacy” gömde hennes rutter från de publika topplistorna. Som kvinna kan det här vara direkt farligt, avslutade hon.
Spola fram åtta (8!) år och DN avslöjar sommaren 2025 att flera av Säpos livvakter använder Strava och läcker information publikt om var statsministern, och andra, rör sig och befinner sig.

Det går inte att nog understryka hur häpnadsväckande detta är. Vilken enorm förtroendeförlust det är för alla inblandade. Det här är en välkänd risk som alla som jobbar med säkerhet också känt till väldigt, väldigt länge… till exempel säkerhetspolisen.
Det går inte för Säpo att säga att de informerat sina anställda och att de inte gör som de ska. Det är inte godtagbart eller hållbart. Det går inte för Säpo att ducka det faktum att andra hade bättre koll på dessa läckor än de själva.
Men vad tror ni? Hur många år kan läckorna ha pågått?
Strava lanserades 2009, och namnet sägs ironiskt nog komma från svenskans ”sträva”. Det får mig osökt att utbrista ”Kämpa, Säpo. Kämpa.”
Det här exemplet finns med på sida 74 i min handbok Digital omtanke från 2019. Jag behöver verkligen också komma vidare med mitt bokprojekt Tekniktrygg, med fler tips jag tror Säpo skulle ha nytta av. 🤯

On July 3rd, I delivered the closing keynote at #CampDigital 2025, a conference at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester organized by Nexer Digital. I’ve now put together my companion page for this talk (which uses the world map to drive home points about deception and bias in design). I thoroughly enjoyed the #CampDigital conference, as I did six years ago. And everyone I speak to is really excited about the content, the welcoming atmosphere and an unmistakeable ingrained warm-heartedness. That’s impressive to pull off.
And I really want to make everyone aware of how much attention is given to #accessibility at Camp Digital.
There is a quiet space for reflection without tech. There are live captions, and hearing loops in all spaces. And all rooms and floors are reachable without steps.
As speakers we received clear instructions on how to make our slides more accessible, considering things like font size, contrast, colour and flashing.
There was also a session of lightning talks, directed by Sharon O'Dea, giving new speakers from underrepresented groups the chance to work on speaking skills in a safe confidence-boosting environment. All conferences should have this.
When you give this much attention to ensuring an inclusive mindset, you get the type of conference where people are supportive, friendly and look out for each other. Everyone is here *together*, not as separate individuals.
Sidenote: The fact that I had prepared my videos with captions meant I could deliver my talk without major issues despite a sound failure. Accessibility is valuable in so many ways.

Thank YOU Hilary! We're just having a pint before going to watch Liberation. It's nice to be finishing the trip at the Royal Exchange Theatre, where you invited me to speak at 6(!) years ago.
As I was preparing my talk yesterday on map projections it occured to me that I should put forward the Waterman "Butterfly" projection as the preferred Bluesky world map.
If you are marking anything on a map, please use the Waterman.
