Good long-read in The Guardian on the history, hype, dangers and promises of AI, by James Bridle. Itâs from March 16 but I hadnât read it yet.
âThe belief in this kind of AI as actually knowledgeable or meaningful is actively dangerous. It risks poisoning the well of collective thought, and of our ability to think at all. If, as is being proposed by technology companies, the results of ChatGPT queries will be provided as answers to those seeking knowledge online, and if, as has been proposed by some commentators, ChatGPT is used in the classroom as a teaching aide, then its hallucinations will enter the permanent record, effectively coming between us and more legitimate, testable sources of information, until the line between the two is so blurred as to be invisible. Moreover, there has never been a time when our ability as individuals to research and critically evaluate knowledge on our own behalf has been more necessary, not least because of the damage that technology companies have already done to the ways in which information is disseminated. To place all of our trust in the dreams of badly programmed machines would be to abandon such critical thinking altogether.â

Okay, then I likely misunderstood â I thought this was about importing the accounts that follow you. In case we are talking about importing the accounts you yourself are following, Akkoma for example has an upload field for that in settings (upload follows from a csv file).

âą Betydligt mindre resurskrĂ€vande Ă€n Mastodon om man har mĂ„nga följare och/eller följer mĂ„nga (tycks gĂ€lla sĂ„vĂ€l minne, processorkraft som lagring). Jag körde tidigare Mastodon och den segade ner min server vĂ€sentligt. Behöver inte sidekiq till exempel och lagrar inte âexternâ media lokalt. FĂ€rre beroenden.
⹠Mer community-driven utveckling (Mastodon Àr mycket mer en one-man show)

Sounds like you're asking if you can export followers and import them to a completely different account without migrating? As a security measure no software on the Fediverse supports this (not available in ActivityPub and hence also not in Mastodon). It would be rather unfortunate if people could be forced to follow new accounts simply through an import.

I know that when I've been in the US my accent becomes even more American and I get away with that there. I also know I'm sometimes a bit of a chameleon voice-wise. I switch a bit of accent and choice of words depending on context and where I am in the world.
Having lived in Africa for so long as a teen I know that my African English is different. So many culturally contextual things going on when I adapt to different surroundings and people. I can even switch to a *very* Swedish accent if I am talking English with many other swedes đ

In grades 2-5 I attended an American school in Saudi Arabia. That's where my accent cemented itself đ
After that I attended a British international school in Tanzania and got teased for my American accent.
Ever since I started podcasting with @Beantin my accent can jump all over the place though. Especially fun is when I use British words with American friends, like "whinge", and they have no idea what I mean. đ
There is an irony, and whimsy, to words.
The word accessibility is not very accessible.
âMonosyllabicâ is an adjective used to describe a word consisting of only one syllable. The word monosyllabic consists of five syllables.
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is a word for the fear of long words. Yes, really.
And literally don't get me started on the word "literally".

Honestly, if I wasn't running my own Akkoma instance I don't think I would be enjoying myself as much here.
By talking about the many different flavors of software I believe we can help more people find a way to feel at home.
