English: Tomorrow I’ll start up my rehab training at home for real. Found a couple of sitting exercise videos I'm going to try. Do not hesitate to suggest other possible sessions/activities you may have stumbled upon. I want to make this into something fun. Walking is no problem even if I’m a bit slow. Trampoline jumping is probably the least suitable. 😅

@daniel Ja den håller fortfarande. Såg precis klart. 😊
Fick ett galet sug efter att kolla på den gamla filmen Strul med Björn Skifs. Vilken udda känsla. Har inte tänkt på den på många år.
@cgruenloh Oh I didn't know about that campaign. What a brilliant initiative, and what a heartbreaking story!
We definitely need more campaigns like this all over.
@impactology @stephenpa Love this thread Raghav. ✌️
Something I’ve noticed about catching people’s names now that I’ve met dozens upon dozens of new people during my hospital stay:
In Swedish it’s just as common to say ”Per heter jag” as it is to say ”Jag heter Per”. Both of those mean ”My name is Per”. It’s of course possible to say ”Per is my name” in English but I don’t pick up on that order of words as often as I do in Swedish.
When people enter your room and immediately say ”Per is my name, hello, how are you, it’s time for your meds” there’s a TON of information in there. My chances of remembering the name of a new person is next to zero, unless they have the same name as me or one of my family members. And the meds part really brings focus away from the person I’m meeting for the first time.
Making sure to lead with how you are about to say your name: ”Hello, my name is Per”, pausing for my response and then continuing with ”I am here to…” gives me a sporting chance.
When people say ”My name is” my alertness immediately rises as I make an effort to remember their name, because I know it’s coming. When said in the reverse it’s much too late. My alertness wasn’t there.
For some reason people also tend to mumble more at the beginning of a sentence (my experience during this week), even when it’s the most important part.

@ambivalena Yeah, it's like I'm a child again, wanting to impress everyone around me with everything I'm able to do.
@ambivalena Yes very. Thank you, I'm learning to take it one day at a time. On the days I feel well I tend to overdo it, but I'm learning. 😅
One thing they didn't prepare me for is that when it's quiet I can actually hear the leaflets in my new mechanical aorta valve opening and closing. It's very much a sound like a clock ticking.
And now I can identify with the crocodile in Peter Pan. 🐊⏰
I actually take it as a comforting sound rather than an alarming one though. 😊
Over on LinkedBin someone announced the release of their book. The announcement contained marketing images with text and I counted three grammatical mistakes.
This type of situation always makes me sigh heavily. But then i move on. After venting about it on another platform of course.
@steveportigal Well that post I actually wrote in English as well, haha. And you're exactly right, that was the only part that was untranslatable. The literal translation of Superman's name when I was a kid was Steel-man. So they had taken the Man of Steel part and used that.
Which made a lot of sense because it was natural to use the prefix "stål" (steel) to signify when someone was extraordinary. Like Stål-mormor would be a really impressive grandma.
I still think Stålmannen is a better name for him in Swedish 😊 And thinking that is obviously a way to joke about being old. It left me without a joke in the English text.

@steveportigal 😁 Oh you even read the Swedish post(!) Good example of something I wanted to have time to translate to English.
I am becoming somewhat better at just letting go of stuff. 😊
@steveportigal thanks Steve, I've made some good progress this week. The op was on Monday. Today I was able to walk a bit (ever so slowly, but still) without a walker. On Tuesday I couldn't walk at all.
I'm at peak hospital experience as I lay alone in the rehab center bed, just taken my pain killer for the night, and am watching Aussie Pickers followed by Aussie Gold Hunters.

Noise pollution, excess water use, exacerbating reliance on fossil fuels, e-waste... This is a good read to understand the very real environmental costs of computing.
"The ecological dynamics we find ourselves in are not entirely a consequence of design limits, but of human practices and choices — among individuals, communities, corporations, and governments — combined with a deficit of will and imagination to bring about a sustainable Cloud. The Cloud is both cultural and technological. Like any aspect of culture, the Cloud’s trajectory — and its ecological impacts — are not predetermined or unchangeable. Like any aspect of culture, they are mutable."
This statistic was disheartening: "Greenpeace estimate that less than 16 percent of the tons of e-waste generated annually is recycled."

@cgruenloh Thank you. 🙏
@mapto I'm expressing how designers used the book, not how Steve intended it. Hence "designers used" and "backfired".
But yes, it's more of a word play post than anything else. 😁
