Enough people used my flowchart on the visibility of a toot as a an example of “how complex Mastodon is”, that I just had to make one on the visibility of a tweet.
The visibility of a tweet is always unpredictable. A post on Mastodon appears chronologically in a transparent and predictable way.

@Loukas Yeah, that's the disadvantage of many apps. They don't keep up with all features.
I just use the site as a progressive web app on my phone. By adding it as a bookmark to my home screen it opens up as its own session separate from the phone browser, very much like an app.

@chiasm I've come across this post but I haven't spent much time going into it.
I run an instance for myself, so the problem with harassment on a server doesn't come into play. With regards to if illegal content could end up on the server I suppose that is a possibility, but it would be easy for me to remove upon request.
But it would also be hard for someone to find it because they would essentially need to know the direct link to the offending content. And that's hard without an account...
Interesting. I suppose what would also make the flowchart correct with regards to this would be to add "Public toot or boost by @hello" in the first rectangle.
I do wonder if there is something else going on, because in my experience all boosts also contain information saying who boosted the toot.
@andreas This other person on the same instance had the same problem, and are clearly saying it was not due to a boost...
I'd say it a case-by-case basis if you decide that your reply is of interest to your followers. I tend to set mine to "Unlisted" (like I'm doing for this one) in which case it won't show up for followers in their timelines but will be visible if people read this thread of replies.
It's a nice way of controlling how you interrupt (or not) the reading flow of others, but without hiding the content.
I rarely use "Followers only" or "Mentioned people only".
@aRubes Ah, excellent. I actually just made it in Keynote on Mac so I'm not of much help unless that file would help you out...
Would be interesting to put it up on an online tool as long as it's easy to control the layout and appearance to make it useful for this type of sharing.

@Tattooed_mummy My understanding is that they will not see the toot. Their instance would have to fetch it for them to see it, but that fetch will never happen.
I've had conversations which can get confusing where people don't see the toots of others in a "thread". Especially mastodon.social is blocked by more instances than I think people realise. So it's good to be aware of this being a possibility when having multi-party conversations.
I've just updated the flowchart explaining "The Visibility of a Toot" again.
It now includes "following a hashtag", a mention of relays and a disclaimer about blocks.
You can also link directly to the flowchart using an anchor link, adding #flowchart to the end of the url, like this:

Ah no, not if you assume that if I follow someone on mastodon.social and then my instance would pull in all the public toots from mastodon.social.
My poor server would struggle with that. :)
När man kollar på listan över instanser hos joinmastodon så står det "Apply for an account" på alla instanser där man måste ansöka.
Det känns som mer än hälften är sådana. Därmed inte sagt att det är tecken på "fancy" utan snarare att man är mån om att personerna hittat rätt och delar intressen eller värderingar.
