When you turn in any of your devices for repair, how worried are you about your data being compromised and copied?
"Researchers at University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, recovered logs from laptops after receiving overnight repairs from 12 commercial shops. The logs showed that technicians from six of the locations had accessed personal data and that two of those shops also copied data onto a personal device. Devices belonging to females were more likely to be snooped on, and that snooping tended to seek more sensitive data, including both sexually revealing and non-sexual pictures, documents, and financial information."

@Kolombiken Perhaps. It's a bit concerting that they decided not to support ActivityPub, the W3C standard, and have opted for Mastodon specific APis.
I just found out that I also can not be followed by someone using Ice Cubes. It simply blocks anything that isn't Mastodon.
One concern that suddenly hit me is that if @ivory app doesn't allow people not using Mastodon software to log in, will they allow to click follow on people who are not on Mastodon?
Hardcoding a block for certain ActivityPub/Fediverse software seems like it can cause all sorts of both technical and exclusionary issues.
@Silhelm Ibland tänker jag på hur det var för 25 år sedan när man tecknade prenumerationer via en förfrankerad talong på 18x6 centimeter. Alla villkor som gällde stod på talongen.
För att det ska kunna jämföras med idag så skulle det skickas hem en katalog på 20 sidor tillsammans med talongen, som man ska godkänna och som man behöver anlita en jurist för att förstå.
Det är ett helvete att det har fått gå så här långt och att det tydligen inte finns några som helst ramar de måste hålla sig inom. Konsumentvägledaren sa i princip att det inte finns några gränser alls för hur långa avtal man kan lura in folk i. "Det är inte prövat."

Wrote about this in February of 2020 (yes, 3 years ago) and they are now finally being investigated by the Swedish Consumer Agency.
Hundreds of people have contacted me over these years to express distress over the large sums of money they are being locked into paying.

I 3 år. Akta er för att anlita kommunikatörer från Dagens industri som inte förstår att orden “bundet avtal” skulle göra det lättare att förstå att det är ett bundet avtal.
Att ordet “tillsvidarepris” enligt konsumentvägledare inte är en skyddad term är ju bara bisartt. Man får säga vad man vill och det får betyda vad man vill.
(De använder alltså bland annat “tillsvidarepris" för avtal som är bundna i upp till 3 år). Det blir fan ingen påföljder den här gången heller. Har dock inte sett Konsumentverkets utredning ännu.
“Ni kanske skulle skriva ‘bundet avtal’ redan i annonsen?”
“Ja vi får titta på om det kanske skulle göra det tydligare, annars får de ju den informationen i bekräftelsen efter att de tecknat avtalet…”
Det är goddag yxskaft på hela den här historien. Att vuxna människor kan sitta och låtsas att det är något som är osäkert. Ja, kanske att det skulle bli tydligare om vi skriver vad det faktiskt är, det som folk inte verkar ha förstått i 3 år.
Vi får titta på det.

I got the error message ”Couldn't Create Account. We currently only support Mastodon servers.”

Seeing people talk about #webrings again and it's bringing tears of joy to my eyes. We need more connections that circumvent big tech and webrings can potentially provide powerful gateways to niche subject areas.

My personal challenge right now is finding a way to join many webrings in a coherent way. Will sit down and have a think about this.
Hope @ivory, @icecubesapp and others don't forget about those of us not using Mastodon and consider feature sets that stretch beyond Mastodon's limits.
But mostly I hope they put #accessibility front and center, not adding it clumsily as an afterthought.
