"Accessibility has failed as a way to make computers usable for disabled users." Thus begins a newsletter by Jakob Nielsen. And had it not been written by someone a great many people take seriously in the UX industry I likely would just have dismissed it. But seeing how harmful I consider the post to potentially be, I would like to nip this in the bud. My reflection is that the published post is misleading, self-contradictory and underhanded. I'll walk you through the whole of it and provide my commentary and reasoning. 👇

Yesterday I started reading the just released Burn Book by Kara Swisher. Of course, had I been unsure about the title of this long-awaited tech-account I could've mistakenly bought and started reading any one of the many fake AI-generated books released at the same time. 🤨

Remember, 'hallucination' describes how generative AI works all the time. It's not a description of a deviation. Generative AI has no correctness gauge.

– Nä, han skickar ut sina egna texter när han tycker det finns något viktigt att säga som borde vara av intresse.
– Han är väl en så’n där senior gubbe nu. Jag antar att det kostar?
– Noll och intet.
– Inte ett korvöre? Han har väl bloggat se’n Hedenhös?
– Åtminstone se’n ’97 på axbom.com, men det har ju uppenbart varit hans grej i kvarts sekel nu, att dela med sig av det han lär sig.
– Måste man logga in, eller är det så’na där nivåer att betala för om man vill ha mer?
– Nej, precis allt ligger helt öppet, som det alltid gjort.
– Låter ju helt bananas att få hans grejer utskickat pyntfritt då. Jag gissar att det är en så’n där plattform som hänger över axeln och samlar min data?
– Nej, allt innehåll är på hans egen server. Han spårar inte ens om du öppnar mejlet eller klickar på länkarna.
– Dra mig baklänges på stadsteatern och kalla mig Piaf. Det låter ju rätt satsigt. Hur tjänar han på det?
– Jag tror inte han är ute efter att tjäna pengar, han försöker nog bara nå ut med sina perspektiv och lärdomar om hur man kan digitalisera på lite snällare sätt.
– Jösses, what’s the catch liksom. Kan man se någon aperitif innan man commitar eller?
– Du har ju hela bloggen på axbom.se, många av de inläggen är ju det som är nyhetsbrevet. Ingen skillnad, typ. Han kan ju vara rätt rolig när han kritiserar också. Du måste läsa den om AI-ansvar och korven, eller när han blir skogstokig på QR-koder. De går att lyssna på som inläst podd också.
– Shit, han bandar på burk också!
– Ja och det jag egentligen tänkte berätta när jag avbröt dig var att man kan vinna hans bok nu. En prenumerant varje månad vinner hans handbok.
– Shaddap and take my money! Nä just det, det var ju bjudkalas.
– Kostnadsfritt, ja. Och du har förstås dubbla vinstchanser om du sajnar upp för både det svenska och det engelska nyhetsbrevet.
– Alltså, tack som fan för tipset. Jag behöver lite paus i mitt kaos.
People used to roll their eyes at individuals on the street carrying signs saying ”The end is near”.
Now when the billionaires are carrying those same signs, people just want to throw more money at them.
The gravitational pull of wealth attracting more wealth is so very strong.
